The support of parishes like yours is vital in our work to improve the lives of seafarers and fishers. Together we can do so much more.
There are many ways to engage your parish and join us in solidarity with the people of the sea. From ordering resources, booking a speaker, knitting wooly hats, or representing us in your community we would love to help you to spread awareness of the issues seafarers face.
Book a speaker
We are always happy to come and speak at events in your local church or community. Whether you are hosting a fundraiser, running a prayer group, or teaching a class, we are available to support you.
If you would like a member of our team to speak at an event you are organising or to a group you are involved with, please don’t hesitate to get in touch today.

Other ways you can get involved
Become a Parish Volunteer
Parish volunteers act as ambassadors in their parish and communities and help spread the word of our work. This can be simply putting copies of our annual report into your parish or helping to promote our annual Sea Sunday appeal.
Fundraising
Fundraising volunteers help us by organising events in their local community. Whether you run, cycle, bake or knit, you could help us.
Please contact our national office for more information about how to get started with a fundraising event.
Knitting
Seafarers are often ill-equipped to deal with the cold conditions they find onboard. Our volunteer knitters provide invaluable support for seafarers by helping them to keep warm.
You can find more information and some patterns to get you started here.
Understanding Stella Maris
About Us
Stella Maris is the largest ship-visiting network in the world, and the official maritime charity of the Catholic Church. We have 220 chaplains supporting seafarers in 54 countries around the world.
Our Work
Life at sea can be difficult and seafarers can suffer from loneliness, depression, spiritual deprivation, and even exploitation. Our chaplains and volunteers visit hundreds of thousands of seafarers every year.
Our History
Stella Maris was founded in Glasgow in 1920 by a group of Catholic men and women with the founding belief that every seafarer deserves fair working conditions and respect for their human rights.
